The fourth Grand-class ship, Caribbean Princess entered service April 17, 2004. Originally announced as Crown Princess the name change is fitting as the vessel sails year-round from Ft. Lauderdale on alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. At 116,000-tons, Caribbean Princess is 7,000 tons larger than the other Grand-class ships Grand, Golden and Star Princess. Caribbean Princess boasts nearly 900 cabins with balconies. A new feature of the new vessel are the ‘Dive-In-Movies’ shown under the stars on a giant, Times Square-style screen by the swimming pool. Other features of the ship are a new Caribbean-themed alternative restaurant, Princess’ trademark Italian trattoria, Lotus Spa, four pools, three separate show lounges, an Internet café and a wedding chapel where couples can be married at sea by the captain.

Cruise Shopping Tips

♦  The higher the deck and the more center ship, the higher the price and accommodation are generally the same in each meta-category.

♦  Flexibility = Savings. Just want to get away? Look for the destination with the best interline savings based on your time off.

♦  Look for cruise departures offering a ROS Inside OR Outside where the inside and outside rates are exactly the same.

♦  In the old days of cruising, you would be given tip envelopes the last day of the cruise. Now, tips are automatically added to your stateroom account, so you don’t have to scramble for the correct amount of cash on the last day!

♦  Protect your vacation investment with insurance. Cruises do not offer bump protection.

Proof of Eligibility

It’s imperative for you to provide proof of eligibility, either in the form of a copy of your airline ID or a letter from a supervisor/pass bureau on airline letterhead stationary proving interline eligibility. If proof of eligibility is not received in a timely manner (varies by cruise line) the interline rate is in danger of reverting to a retail rate, costing you hundreds of dollars.
